Abdominoplasty, commonly called a "tummy tuck", is an operation to remove excess fat and skin from the abdomen. The surgeon may also tighten the tummy muscles. The aim is to produce a tighter, flatter stomach and it may partially reduce the appearance of stretch marks.
Abdominoplasty is usually carry out to remove excessive skin from areas where large weight loss has left a lot of surplus that can't be removed by exercise or dieting as the skin is literally overstretch. This can be a problem especially for older people who have been overweight a long time before slimming, as skin lose it elasticity with age.
The extra skin is cut way and restitched, leaving scars along bikini line and sometimes the navel. Other procedure or repair to the muscles of abdomen may also be carry at the same time during abdominoplasty.
